Sony and Sharp will create the joint venture for manufacture of LCD TV-sets

Japanese electronics manufacturers, company Sony Corp and Sharp Corp, have reached the agreement on creation of joint venture on manufacture of TVs with liquid crystal displays (LCDs). Such information has been given in the press release of the companies published today.
The exact volume of investments into construction of a new factory in the West of Japan from both companies is not declared yet, however, it is planned, that Sharp will enclose 380 billion yens (3,52 billion dollars).
Construction of factory has started in December, 2007, and manufacture, will, predictably, start in March 2010. According to the terms of agreement, which should meet with approval of corresponding regulators, Sharp will possess 66 % of shares in the joint venture.
As analysts mark, investment participation of Sony, which is carrying out similar cooperation with South-Korean giant Samsung Electronics - the world leader on LCDs release, will allow Sharp to use the released means for increase of efficiency and escalating of manufacture of “tenth generation displays” with a diagonal of more than 50 inches.
Let’s remind, that in 2007, company Pioneer has joined manufacture of LCD TVs Sharp. Besides, Matsushita Electric Industrial, Hitachi and Canon have also agreed about cooperation in LCDs manufacture.
