Russia expects for glass boom
15 September 2007Glass market has been actively developing in Russia. The building branch - is the basic glass consumer and it takes almost 70 % of the let out product. The gain of demand also provides automobile glass, in connection with expansion of assembly manufacture.
Market participants mark that technologies, which were brought by world leaders of the glass market, are demanded and successfully introduced by the experts. Today the manufacture of float-glass (type of sheet glass) is being widely used.
Last year the volume of the sheet glass market has made 220 million sq.m. In spite of the fact that domestic factories have adopted the western experience, they have a number of competitive advantages.
As Russian have mentioned, glass business in Russia is twice more perspective, than in the Europe. Profitability makes almost 50-60 %. Probably, therefore investments in the glass industry have made 900 million dollars. According to market players, construction of a new factory manages approximately in 150 million dollars. But the term of its recoupment (as business-plan shows), should make about 5,5-6 years. One more advantage of Russian glass relies in the low prices for energy carriers. However, in case of alignment of the world prices, Russian glass industry can lose such privilege.
