Operational system Windows continues to be the leader in the world IT market. The majority of companies, specializing on release of ready notebooks and desktops, continue to cooperate with Microsoft. However Dell has decided to give an alternative variant to the clients. On May, 21st John Hull, who is responsible for work from OS Linux, has shared details about the company on start of a new ruler of computers on the open operational system.
One of last distribution kits of Linux - Ubuntu versions 7.04 has been chosen as OS. We shall notice that it is not the first Dell in sphere of OS. Under the preliminary information, the given distribution kit will be established on a number of models from series Dimension E520, XPS 410 and notebooks Inspirion1505. Deliveries of models with Ubuntu will be started on May, 24th.
Dell promises, that all “iron” will be as much as possible compatible with Linux and drivers for this OS. There, where it will be possible, Dell uses the driver with the open initial code. However in a number of the models containing Wi-Fi adapters on the basis of chip Intel PRO/Wireless 3945, the company should be limited to firm drivers. However, it concerns only notebooks of series Inspiron 1505. Besides those, who does not wish to waste time on fuss with the open code, can receive habitual “closed” driver for all devices. Dell does not exclude, that all spectrum of possible periphery will be entered into initial delivery. However the company promises to make up for lost time and be convinced, that production of suppliers will be completely compatible with Ubuntu.
