News Corp. will buy Dow Jones for $5 billion
1 May 2007Mediaconcern News Corp. has directed the offer on purchase of company Dow Jones, financial and business information provider, for 5 billion dollars. As it is spoken in Dow Jones’ message, the board of directors has received the offer from News Corp. on purchase of the company’s shares for 60 dollars per each in the cash or mixed form that in the sum makes nearby 5 billion dollars.
It is also marked in Dow Jones message that now the board of directors and shareholders “consider the offer” and “there is no guarantee, that this offer will be followed with the transaction”.
Despite of such comments of the company, the message on offer News Corp. has sharply increased Dow Jones’ shares in price at the New York stock exchange. According to all available information, the cost of the share at the New York stock exchange has grown on 54 % up to $55,94 owing to what the tenders by securities Dow Jones have been stopped.
News Corp. possesses 175 newspapers; British Times and American New York Post are among them. The structure of the company also includes Fox group - the company which structure includes television network Fox and a movie studio 20th Century Fox.
Let’s remind, that net profit of the News Corp. in first half of 2006-2007, which has come to the end on December, 31st 2006, has grown in 2,6 times - up to 1,66 billion dollars in comparison with 642 million dollars, received for the similar period in 2006.
